- Dec 16, 2020 · The HP t620 includes one RTL8111 gigabit port and I installed two additional ports in the PCI slot via a low-profile SYBA 2-port Ethernet PCIe also with Realtek RTL8111 chips (from Amazon). pfSense seems to support just about anything, including USB ethernet dongles, but for the "production" build, this gives me three internal gigabit ports.
Limiters¶. Limiters are an alternate method of traffic shaping. Limiters use dummynet(4) to enact bandwidth limits and perform other prioritization tasks, and they do not rely on ALTQ. Limiters are currently the only way to achieve per-IP address or per-network bandwidth rate limiting using pfSense® software.
- Apr 22, 2015 · Hi Ken! Thanks for your blog posts, they’ve been very helpful. I just got Centurylink’s gigabit GPON service installed yesterday, and have it configured in pfSense without their router today; but I’m only able to get ~330Mb/s vs. full 920Mb/s or so when using their router.

- I've noticed that more and more users are creating pfSense VMs like me, or are buying dedicated boxes. After using pfSense for a month I can wholeheartedly recommend running it in a VM as the outlay is very low, £60 in my case for a dual Intel nic, and the improvement in security, performance and network control are immense over an ISP provided modem/router.
I have a relatively new UTM 9 Home edition running that is connected up to my new Gigabit fiber connection using PPPoE. I have an assigned range of static IP addresses the ISP gave me but I see that the main external IP address has tons of dropped packets to the UTM.
